Seniority Level Can Stop the Deluge

Drowning in unqualified candidates? If you are responsible for recruiting, chances are it’s your fault. Apologies for the sting, but better to rip that Band-Aid off rather than prolong your suffering. Many recruiters are making the simplest of mistakes when posting positions on sites like LinkedIn. When I first decided to research this topic, I thought this mistake occurred because the missed question was hidden; buried in all the data being requested by job sites. However, the question sits at the top of the form in plain sight for any recruiter to notice.

Seniority Level

Too many employers have this set to Entry Level. I can only surmise that those responsible for recruiting new talent misunderstand this term. Entry-level is not a position that allows someone a foot in the door to your company. If that were the logic, then every position would be listed as such and there would be no need for Seniority Level as an option when posting a position.

Entry-level is defined as a job that is suitable for a beginner, or at the lowest level in an employment hierarchy. Does either of those define the job you are posting? The answer is most likely no.
